In my home state of Pennsylvania a charge of simple assault is considered a class two misdemeanor and can net the individual up to a two year jail term and is defined thusly:
§ 2701. Simple assault.
(a) Offense defined.–A person is guilty of assault if he:
1. attempts to cause or intentionally, knowingly or recklessly causes bodily injury to another;
2. negligently causes bodily injury to another with a deadly weapon; or
3. attempts by physical menace to put another in fear of imminent serious bodily injury.
If Senator Barack Obama has his way, some residents of Pennsylvania could find themselves behind bars:
“I need ya to go out and talk to your friends, and talk to your neighbors,” Obama said. “I want you to talk to ‘em whether they are independent or whether they are Republican. I want you to argue with them, and get in their face, and if they tell ya, ‘Well, we’re not sure where he stands on guns,’ I want you to say, ‘He believes in the Second Amendment.’”
If someone “got in my face” and started talking about the “right to bear arms” I would seek to have them arrested on the spot. Perhaps those are the methods of a Harvard graduating, $13,000 per year ‘community organizer’, but hardly the methods that a candidate for President should espouse. I can think of some other words for what Obama is promoting; intimidation, coercion, menacing, minacious, minatorial, minatory, ominous, sinister, and threatening, to name just a few.
