Murtha: “Western Pennsylvania Is A Racist Area”

From the mouth of House of Representative member John Murtha:

There’s no question Western Pennsylvania is a racist area,” said Mr. Murtha, whose district stretches from Johnstown to Washington County.

Travel west from Philadelphia or east from Pittsburgh for a few minutes and you’ll discover the strangest thing; people who get out of bed before sunrise and work until long after the sun sets. People so accustomed to the incessant smell of animal excrement that they no longer discern the odor. Hard working people that make sure the rest of the nation has butter on the table, fresh milk in the refrigerator, ice cream in the freezer, and a myriad of other foods available to them in their grocery store. These same people are beginning to see the divide in this country, between those that provide some tangible good or product, and those that demand an inequitable distribution of the benefits of their efforts in order to (in the words of Barack Obama) “spread the wealth around.” (1)

I’m beginning to feel the same feeling I had in 1980 here in rural Pennsylvania. Just days prior to that election (when the polls showed Jimmy Carter certain to be re-elected), people wandered over to their neighbor’s fence and began to talk about the election. They expressed their frustration with a Federal government that was out of touch with its citizens. They took offense at a politician who pointed his finger at us and implied that we were the problem. The polls announced the inevitability of a Carter re-election, but I witnessed first-hand the response to the ground swell of opinion and resentment. On election day the line formed before sunrise at the Elementary School. I saw nearly every one of my neighbors in that line. My wife, who voted after her job was finished, witnessed the “late shift” of voters. Every one of the rest of our neighbors were in that line. We voted out of office the negative, finger-pointing candidate.

So socialist (2) candidate Barack Obama thinks that people from Pennsylvania “cling to their guns and Bibles” and the despicable troop-hating John Murtha thinks that we are “racists?”

Good luck with that strategy. I’ve been there before, and seen what happens.

Unless Barack Obama and ACORN is allowed to steal this election by padding the voter registration rolls and dis-enfranchise (by negating the vote of) thousands of rural Pennsylvania voters, Barack Obama will not carry this state. Would you like some butter on your toast, John Murtha?

(2) Socialism refers to a broad set of economic theories of social organization advocating state or collective ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods, and the creation of an egalitarian society. Modern socialism originated in the late nineteenth-century working class political movement. Karl Marx posited that socialism would be achieved via class struggle and a proletarian revolution, it being the transitional stage between capitalism and communism .

Blogger Zombie has an interesting article on polls, the effect of the media, and some other interesting issues, here. I’ll crib the ending:

Will the exaggerations become a self-fulfilling prophecy, as assumed, or are Obama supporters spinning further and further away from reality, constructing one unsupportable exaggeration on top of another — only to be stunned on election day when the actual results, once again, don’t match either their pre-vote opinion polling or their post-vote exit polling?

Yet it may very well be that an army of glum, dispirited and pessimistic conservatives will reluctantly trudge to the polls on November 4, each one imagining they are only remaining person in the entire country voting for McCain, and lo and behold — they’ll turn out to be a silent majority after all.
